Editorial Policy

How this site is written, what it is for, and what it is not.

Why this policy exists

People often come to a health website at a worrying time. This page explains how Deciphering Autoimmune is written, what it is for, and what it is not, so you can decide how much weight to give it.

Purpose

The aim of this site is education. It explains autoimmune conditions in plain English so that you can understand a diagnosis, prepare for appointments and ask better questions.

How the content is written

The site is written and maintained by its author. Each condition follows the same structure: an overview, common symptoms, causes, how it is diagnosed, treatment and management, living with the condition, when to seek medical help, and related conditions.

The condition pages are general summaries. They cannot cover every variation, and the same condition can look very different from one person to another.

What this site does not do

  • It does not diagnose conditions.
  • It does not tell you which treatment or dose to use.
  • It does not replace advice from your GP, pharmacist or specialist.

Accuracy and corrections

Medical knowledge and treatment guidance change over time, and a page may be out of date or wrong. If you spot a mistake, please tell me using the contact details on the Contact page. Confirmed errors will be corrected.

Please do not send personal health details by email. I cannot give medical advice or answer questions about your own care.

Independence and links

The site does not currently carry advertising or sponsored content. Links to other organisations, for example on the Resources page, are there for convenience and are not an endorsement. I do not control the content of other websites.

In an emergency

If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 999 (UK) or your local emergency number. For non-urgent advice in the UK, contact your GP or call NHS 111.
